Here are a few candle maintenance tips to help all types of candles burn better, glow brighter, and keep your home as cozy as can be.
We often think of candles as a kind of inanimate décor, akin to a lamp or a bookend. But the truth is they’re much more like houseplants: a little mysterious, ever-evolving, and in need of some regular TLC in order to live their best life.
1. Trimming the Wick
Be sure to trim your wick to 1/4 inch each time you go to light your candle. You can trim your wick using wick scissors that are designed to trim your wick to the perfect length. This will prevent uneven burning and flaring on each burn.
2. Burning the Candle
Burn your candle for the recommended amount of time to create an even wax pool. A good way to check this is to see if the wax pool has reached the edge of the candle jar! This will also prevent candle tunneling. Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours.
3. Blowing Out the Candle
Don't blow your candle out! Instead, use a candle snuffer to extinguish your flame. This will preserve your candle's scent, as well as prevent hot wax from splattering.
4. Using Your Wick Dipper
If needed, use your wick dipper to re-center your wick to ensure a proper burn, as well as remove any debris that may have fallen off into your wax. You can even use your wick dipper to extinguish your candle without any smoke, or clean any wax that may have built up around the rim. There are so many uses for this tool in your candle care kit!
